Gendered Roles and Expectations

One thing that we hear constantly is that people want to talk to mental health practitioners who share similar lived experiences. There is immense value in this, because it helps us feel truly seen, heard, and understood without having to explain the baseline of who we are.

Many of us from Asian cultures have experienced not only the pressures of social/familial hierarchies, but also gendered roles and expectations. These can manifest in family dynamics, career choices, social behaviours and so much more. Learning to safely manage these unfair demands in culturally-sensitive ways can be liberating and transformative.

You can go directly to each practitioner's profile by clicking on their image.

Connect with our practitioners above via our Asian Australian Mental Health Practitioner List HERE.

Alternatively, if you know anyone who may want some support dealing with gendered roles and expectations, be sure to forward this page on to them too. Let us continue to not only support ourselves but all those around us too!

If you require urgent assistance, please do not contact any of the practitioners on this list. Instead, please call emergency services on 000 or call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Shapes and Sounds does not recommend or endorse any of the practitioners listed on the Asian Australian Mental Health Practitioner List.

Please always consult your GP before making changes to your mental health care plan.
