Meet Asian Australian Clinical Psychologist: Pallavi Pillay

newsletter Jun 01, 2026

We know that it's not always easy trying to work out which therapist we might like to work with: Because the decision isn't just about where they're located and when they're available, but there's a bit more of a human, relational element to the decision too.

So here at Shapes and Sounds, we want to help make that process just a little easier.

Every month, we'll be introducing a therapist from the Asian Australian Mental Health Practitioner List to help you gain a bit more insight into who you feel might be a good fit for you or someone that you know.

This month we're excited to connect you with Pallavi who is a clinical psychologist offering services in Sydney, NSW. We hope you enjoy connecting with Pallavi below!

1. What led you to choosing mental health as a career?

I realised I love people.. working with them, understanding them, figuring them out, and sitting in the uncomfortable place that we are all flawed and wonderful at the same time.

Plus I didn't get into medicine!

2. What is your unique cultural heritage?

I am of Indian origin, but have lived across the world, often referring to myself as a global citizen.

3. What are your areas of specialty and what kind of frameworks do you work from?

My areas of interest are in health- especially oncology and chronic health and all that arises from it, like fertility issues, relationship difficulties, adjusting to major life changes. I use a parts based model, mostly schema therapy, as it makes sense to me and how I see the world.

4. What kind of clients are you best able to support?

Adults, 18 and above, in Sydney, and interstate. Anyone who is willing to chat, I will listen and we will work out if our collaboration is the most helpful for them.

5. If you could be your own therapist right now, what do you think you would say to yourself?

You don't need to do it all, all at once, all the time. Pause.
