Reclaiming your culture

lived experience mental health Sep 24, 2026

One thing that we hear constantly is that people want to talk to mental health practitioners who share similar lived experiences. There is immense value in this, because it helps us feel truly seen, heard, and understood without having to explain the baseline of who we are.

Many people have told us they seek therapy to navigate their cultural identity - specifically, how to reclaim their culture while living in a Western country. Reclaiming your culture is about safely reconnecting with your heritage, traditions, and values on your own terms, which is deeply empowering for our mental health because it grounds our sense of self-worth and belonging.

That’s why we’ve compiled this post featuring practitioners from our list who have personal, lived experience with reclaiming their culture. We hope this helps you find a practitioner who truly resonates with your story.
